An earthbound bird is vulnerable. As their feathers ritualistically fall out, they are stranded on ground. Molting can take up to a month, and they expel all of their energy to aid in the process. But when molting is complete, new flight feathers dress their wings and carry them to the safety of the infinite sky.

Nesting

She spent almost a decade hunting ghosts. She was paid to investigate haunted locations all over the country, encouraging invisible things to go bump in the night. Some of those “things” followed Her home — a crowded home already filled with misty apparitions.

Her ghosts lived with her; they swarmed Her, some inconsiderate and depleting, others sincere and appreciative. She was afraid to evict them, fearing Her memory would fail Her. But memories and release are not mutually exclusive. Still, She took comfort in them flying around Her, flapping their shiny dark wings and shrieking when She made bad decisions.
